From the Monterey County
Herald L
E T T E R S DON'T DETACH EASTWOOD Editor: Clint Eastwood has come up with yet another diabolical scheme to put himself above the laws that pertain to everyone else in Monterey County. (The Herald, April 27). He does not want to be bothered with any regulation by the water management district on his vast property (Tehama). Instead, he wants to take the unprecedented step of what he calls "detaching" himself from the district so that he can be regulated specially by some unknown individual/entity. Lets we not forget, it was Eastweed who paid millions to pass Measure A to "detach" Pebble Beach Company, of which he is an owner, from county zoning requirements so he could "save the forest" by destroying more than 15,000 trees in the Del Monte Forest. I like this idea of "detachment". Personally, I would like to detach myself fro the IRS and be regulated by, say, the State Department of Fish and Game. Now that Eastwood has"poked the skunk", I call upon the water district to start clamping down on folks like Eastwood whose impact on the Carmel river needs more, not less, supervision. Susan
