Report No. 3 -- A NEW GOLF DRIVING RANGE NEAR SPANISH BAY RESORT See drawing plan of the Spanish Bay Driving Range (below) Also see aerial photographs of the proposed New Driving Range Area (below) The proposed new golf driving range will be located along the south side of Congress Road, east of 17 Mile Drive and the entrance to the Inn at Spanish Bay Resort. The PB Co. application calls for construction of a driving range, teaching facility and parking area.The application calls for a land cut of 12,293 Cu. yd. and a land fill of 31,977 Cu. yd. The new golf teaching building will be 3,000 sq. ft. in size and the new parking area will cover 2.5 acres of paved land. .The application indicates 1,200 Monterey Pine and 15 Oak trees will be removed . Herbacous and scrub understory will also be removed for this area near existing homes on Majella Rd.It is understood by many interested environmentalist that wetlands exist in this area.The Monterey County's February, 2004 EIR indicates that the PB Co's. "Best Management Practices Plan" includes many conditions including the following specific measures for wetlands:
The loss of 1,200 Monterey Pine and 15 Oak trees will certainly have an adverse impact on the wildlife that use this area and Forest residents that reside in the near by areas. |
