July 15, 2002 Mr. Tim Johnston re: Pebble Beach Community Services District "Notice of Intent"
Dear Mr. Johnston: Supervisor Dave Potter's assistant, Terry, suggested I contact you regarding the notice I and many of my neighbors received last week from Mr. Richard Andrews, General Manager of the Pebble Beach Community Services District, stating that said entity is going to add nearly 5, 000 square feet of floor area to their present facility at Lopez road and Forest Lake Road and construct a 3,600 square foot storage building as well as an 11,000 square foot parking lot across the street from our homes. As you can imagine, this news was not at all pleasant to read. None of us bought homes to be near an equipment storage building nor a one hundred car parking lot. Nor are we particularly anxious for the increased activity 5,000 square feet of additional office space will produce. I wrote to Mr. Andrews at the same time I wrote to Supervisor Potter and have since received from him material explaining how his organization has "mitigated" the possible damages to wild life and damages to our environment from dust during construction. There is, however, no indication as to how he plans to "mitigate" the eyesore of equipment sheds and parking lots and their negative effect on our property values once construction is completed. Supervisor Potter indicated that contrary to the notice's implication that construction is to begin almost immediately, there will be public hearings held by your Commission before final permits are granted for this work to begin. My purpose in writing you today is to request you to advise me and my neighbors when these hearings will take place and also to advise you that the plans being advanced by the Pebble Beach Community Services District are not al all pleasing to the residents of the area they intend to denigrate. Sincerely, /ss/ Phillips Wylly
